I have a friend (not a close talk-to-all-the-time friend, but definitely a friend) who dealt with some cancer a couple of years ago. I know that it came back recently and he's working through chemo and has a very upbeat attitude about.

A mutual friend who would be closer to the friend with cancer just e-mail blasted a group of us who are friends with him about having a weekend vacation trip with our friend, perhaps sometime in September. This sounds like a very nice idea, but I can't help but read into it that there might be concern that our friend might not beat this round and that the gathering is to all see him again before....

Am I reading too much into this?
