I honestly thought the same of myself. But when we saw that my grandfather was not going to make it, I, my sister and my mother decided that he would not be alone in his room. We took shifts of varying lengths and watched the roller coaster. As it turned out, on one of my shifts (a 7pm to 2am IIRC) I saw that he was finally going. Luckily my mother arrived and I stayed with her as he left us. I did not feel the fatigue of that week until later.
