Tax filing bitchin': Why do you have to pay to file electronically? Doesn't it save the gov't money to review something electronically? -- nm

You don't necessarily have to "pay". At the IRS's website they have an entire list of companies that do your federal taxes for free.

I buy TaxAct Deluxe every year for $9.95 and that includes a free filling. Easy-peasy. -- nm

You don't. You pay for Turbo Tax to do it. If you use the gov't website it's free. -- nm

the fee doesn't go to the gov, the fee is for the tax service company
