My thought is it's Taylor. Taylor is booted and Gabriel takes his place.
Though, honestly, I'm not sure Gabriel could take Taylor's place as it might involved several jumps in rank.
But if it's Gabriel, then the whole bit with Curtis Armstrong's character not serving him and the whole is he/isn't he thing takes the the shock out of it.
