it bugs me because his sport offers so many chances to get a medal each time around.

a boxer, wrestler or basketball player will have a chance at only one medal each time around.
if they let basketball players compete in games of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 minute quarters followed by 1 on 1, 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 games, all of which had a chance at medals, I would call it equal
