So my receiver has been going on the fritz over the last while

for basically the last 2 years, it would go through phases when it would start with a ear piercing screech, and then stop for awhile. Lately, it's started randomly doing it after start up. I was trying to convince my wife about the need for a new one, and during a pause in the debate, with perfect timing, it starts emitting a screech. She's now convinced I did this on purpose.
