Something still bothers me about The Dark Knight Rises (spoilers)

They show Batman in The Bat with 5 seconds left on the bomb's digital readout. It's such a cheat to have him be alive after that.

We're left to assume that what we saw on screen wasn't real. I really don't get why Nolan couldn't have just shown The Bat flying away without the interior close-ups of Batman flying it.
