I think the backlash is/will be misplaced. There will be a sense of him doing something wrong. There is already that sense.

I'm not trying to defend the tax code. I'm saying it is wrong to blame him for the code or for using it to his advantage. Which is what I think is happening here - he is becoming the poster child for the middle class sense of injustice.

Your point about using this as a means of understanding where his loyalties lie or as an assessment of what kind of fiscal plan he is likely to support based on his history, that is totally fair.
