I need to go buy an external drive, in part to pull files off a Mac to then put on a PC. That's possible, right?

I have to ask because we received a drive from this photographer with all the files from a recent photo shoot he did at our club.

This drive does not 'appear' on any of our PCs, but it does work on the boss's Mac laptop.

How do I ensure that I buy an external drive that will play nice with both types of machines?
