"I am going to violate one of my huge political no-nos. The inside message states my feeling on abortion in terms of rape (and overall)."

David, I appreciate what you're saying, but I didn't just come into my beliefs and faith without thought and discussion.

I've talked to my priests, my friends, women that I've known, and dated. And my honest answer would be, and always will be, that I could not take the life of an innocent child. Without getting too specific I'm certain that on this my wife and I are of like mind, and though it would unquestionably be the most difficult period of our lives we would choose life, and adoption. If it were someone else I knew or loved and they came to me I would tell them how I felt, and hope they would make the decision that I believe is right, and would accept my help in any way I could, but would continue to love them regardless.
It's not an easy answer, and it's not one that I take or make lightly. But I believe that life, no matter how conceived is worthy of well, life. And I don't ignore for a second the impact that it has on the woman, and the help that they would need. We may disagree on where that help should come from, but not that that help should exist (and it does).
And I truly don't know how to respond to the belief that proofs positions stem from a hate for women. It's just so offensive on its face. It's like calling someone a racist, it shuts down any constructive dialogue. Do those who believe in abortion have to prove they don't hate babies? Would you stand for that? Or would you be offended to the core if you were constantly bombarded with that "accusation." Pro-life isn't about hating women, it's about respecting life and speaking for those that need the most protection.
We have the science and medical technology to determine when the heart begins beating, when brain waves begin, when an unborn child feels pain, and all of these indicators point to life beginning long before the child is actually birthed. We know when it ceases to be "just a mass of tissue." and yes, there are, obviously, those who state that life begins at conception, but even ignoring those beliefs it's more than just a mass of tissue when the heart starts beating...
You state that that you have no interest in protecting "that which does not exist" when we don't protect "those that do" and I ask how can we consider ourselves a civilized society when in the face of medical evidence we state that life doesn't begin until birth when it's clear that somewhere between conception and birth it becomes more than just a lump of tissue...
I know that neither of us (or any of us) are changing our minds based on this discussion, I only point out that there is another side represented here on the boards and when pro-life is continually boiled down to "hates women", etc. it's a lot less pleasant for some of us here.
