what I would describe as reasonable conservative Republicans (though the reasonable part is borderline. They still get way too much of their news from Fox News). They rationalize their votes for someone like this by just believing that he'll never get any of his crazy stuff to pass. They essentially count on the democratic opposition to stop these guys from going nuts.
