I have been through it. But in my case I was also aware that my father was not even paying my mother what he was supposed to.

And no, my mother never spoke ill of my father (even though she very well *should* have). So as a result, I said I did not want to do a lot of the fun things he was suggesting and instead said I wanted to go buy clothes for school. In all honesty, I think that is very likely what caused me to *like* shopping to this very day.
