The waiver trade deadline is the last day of August. In order for a player to be traded in August, they must first clear waivers. What happens 97% of the time is that the player's current team asks too much and no deal occurs. 2% of the time, a trade happens. 1% of the time, the team that has the player's rights says "Just take him" for payroll relief.
