Notes on Philly and the road there & back from Mount Laurel, NJ.

Being in the room where the Declaration of Independence was debated & signed was very cool.

The Liberty Bell is much smaller than I thought it would be. (And it's not behind glass. There are maybe 4 Park Rangers standing guard.)

If you go to Philly for even a day be sure to get a Philly Pass. It will pay for itself in just a couple of admissions.

The Duck Boat tour was fun, but not enough time in the water.

The Big Bus tour (double-decker with upstairs seating in the open) is a great way to get to a *lot* of attractions in Philly. And you get some history, too.

Definitely get off the bus at Reading Market. We had lunch there (pastrami sandwiches from Herschel's Deli). There are *tons* of food options. If you have a kitchen in your hotel room you can even pick up fresh veggies and meat.

The Eastern State Penitentiary is worth visiting. Just for Steve Buscemi's narration of the audio tour.

We went to the Sugar House Casino. We each won $30 immediately (I won on the Village People penny slot). We each left up $20 *and* a free t-shirt for signing up for their players card.

NJ state roads make me crazy. Right lanes drop off with no warning. You have to already know where you can make a u-turn from a side turn or else you drive another mile or 2 to another side turn. Have they never heard of left turn lanes? (Actually, they have, but there are very few where I needed them.)

I have a WaWa pretzel that I'm too full from dinner to eat right now. I have a feeling it will be hard by morning. But I can say I have been in a WaWa for the first time.

And what's the deal that you can't pump your own gas in NJ? Yeah, it's great that kids have minimum wage jobs but I'd rather pump my own and think I'm getting a lower price because there's less overhead. However, the kid pumping my gas was pleasant and we talked about Boston.

Tomorrow may not be eventful in Pittsburgh as the lesbians we were supposed to meet for lunch cancelled. So we have to find something to do in the afternoon. Maybe go to the casino. Maybe dinner at Max's Allegheny. Probably lunch at Primanti's.
