By details, I mean details. Little small things. Important ones, though.
This afternoon, Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue, Mark Gatiss and Andrew Scott took to the stage in Edinburgh to present the TV Festival Masterclass on the subject of Sherlock. Some of the little bits and pieces they let slip were specifically designed to tease us.
For example, three words that will define the next series. Much how Woman, Hound and Fall were used to describe the last run, there are new episode-by-episode clues for series three.
These words, Moffat revealed, were Rat, Wedding and Bow.
And somewhere in there, you can probably work out what stories theyll be adapting. Perhaps. Maybe.
We already know that the first episode keyword Rat is an adaptation of The Adventure of The Empty House, and is being written by Gatiss.
But Wedding and Bow? Who knows how much theyre trying to misdirect us with those?
Asked if Moriarty would be returning, Andrew Scott said, and apparently quite plainly, that the character is dead. Not quite an answer, then and very possibly not the truth. Theres no use in pursuing these kinds of enquiry with Moffat or any of his collaborators, Im sure. If they dont want us to know the reality, theyll just bend it.
Production on the new episodes will start in January and they will then air in the Autumn of next year, possibly August. Sue Vertue said that she is determined to close the gap between UK and US airdates too, but seeing as the delay has been around five months, thats a lot of closing to do.
