Am I right in remembering (believing) that the US supported Mubarak until it became clear that his position was untenable?

After that became obvious, the Obama administration joined in the public calls for Mubarak to step down, right?
I ask this because I have noticed recent political propaganda claiming that Obama and Clinton supported the change in leadership in Egypt, with the Dems claiming that this was an accomplishment by Obama and the conservative nutjobs claiming that they supported the Muslim takeover in Egypt.
(Aside: As someone who relates more to the conservative ideology, can I mention again how frustrated I am that the nutjobs have taken over my party and that they are still wrapped up in trying to paint Obama as a Muslim? I hate what has become of the GOP.)
Anyway, from what I recall both sides are wrong on this point and this wasn't something Obama chose to do or perhaps even wanted to do. I believe the US had a large investment in Mubarak and would have preferred that he remain in power as opposed to what they have now in Egypt. Ultimately, I think the Obama administration saw the change was inevitable and moved with the tide.
Do I have this right?
