Our lab pretty much let E do whatever she wanted (within reason) without reacting.

I think they realize that it's a child and they need to protect it in most cases. She could pull her ears, lay on her, etc... as long as she didn't cause pain to the dog.
That said, obviously you don't want to let it happen all the time but you'll be amazed at what the dog will let the kid get away with.
