As the good doctor says (no, not Vermin, the other doctor), books are humanity's greatest weapon ... I'll assume he didn't mean it literally, but if so, books are useful as projectiles, too.

But seriously, if you were going up against a foe in a battle of some kind (hypothetically), why would you want to pay them to read their ramblings? :) Know Thine Enemy, not Reimburse Thine Enemy For Being Chummy.

It's still openmindedness, to even consider reading it.
