I'm divided about this

On one hand, I totally understand. If something happens and I have to evacuate, Bobby is coming with me (he has his own go bag). If a shelter won't take dogs, I'll keep going until I find somewhere that does, even it means living in a motel 500 miles away.
On the other hand, I spent three days in a public shelter during a hurricane once, and it was incredibly chaotic. There were a lot of crimes of opportunity and my friends and I actually kept watch while the rest of us slept. I cannot imagine how much more chaotic (and noisy) it would be if there were 200 dogs added to the 500 people, not to mention all the cats etc. Sanitation became an issue with just the people.
Of course, I have a lot more financial resources now and can afford to consider Bobby's safety equal to my own. In a perfect world there would be enough resources to handle all the people and their pets, but I realize this will not be the case.
