Also...I'll go against conventional wisdom and say that #7 isn't as foolish as it sounds.

I know everyone talks about "two fronts" and "attacking Russia in winter" but the Germans were revolutionizing modern warfare with coordination with the main battle tank at the center. They were gobbling up HUGE expanses of land every time they attacked a new country and they were doing it faster/better each time.
They weren't entirely reasonable to think they could do it before winter set in. Plus, they wanted to do it sooner rather than later lest Stalin get nervous. So they couldn't really take the extra time to get the winter gear in place.
Their failure pretty much gave everyone the idea of just how fair coordinated attacks could go. Even now we don't try and go much further/faster (especially the US who have made some of the same mistakes in procurement that the Germans did - fewer, higer tech, delicate weapons).
