i'm trying to say something in a way such as to suggest that a character's accent is sort of vague but without a doubt Northern ... for example, you can tell that the person is from somewhere up north, but you just can't place exactly where ... not an obvious Massachusetts, New Jersey, or New York accent, for example ... you just can't place it ...
saying that the accent is "vaguely Northern" doesn't sound right to me ...
I would like to say that the accent is "unspecifically Northern" ... but I'm not sure how that sounds ....
What does ST say?
