I actually wrote a paper on that in undergrad that ended up getting published. It is pretty rare and we I don't think we screen for it.

(The proper screening is to ask the patient at the end and then follow up within a few days.)

But we do use BIS monitors which monitor brain electroactivity which theoretically should decrease the incidence (people debate if BIS is worth it or not).

But yes.. FREAKING SCARY. I read articles where they had patient accounts.
