Apple is all about software innovation now with the iPhone. Skipping NFC in this round does open the door for Samsung/Android to do it better

because they already have NFC in the market. And given their wallet application they've already demo'ed for iOS 6, it would really make sense for them to double down on it and really show off what the tech can do. Otherwise, it's not a very exciting release
