there's belt to the fan's motor, so yeah it could be the same thing. Of course the repair guy will explain to you that your 20 yo heater is a waste..

ful gas burning ineffecient converter of energy from the burn chamber to the exchanger and if you spend 2 or 3k for a new high efficency unit you'll save enough in the first year to pay for it. of course after paying for a new heater our bills were the same.
