Heh - this reminds me of a co-workers comment one day that wised me up considerably. He was a really skilled and smart insurance guy - had worked on

On the company side of things - knew it backwards and forwards - and ckncentrated on the complex & really big accounts. Smart guy - had loyal clinet base and great relationship with the inderwriters that would get stuff done for him.
He was never one to change copy paper - fax paper - toner - sometimes I even doubted his ability to make coffee.
I called him out on it one day when a machine had jammed and I was fixing it for him - said something like "Fred, why is it you never have to do any of this fix it stuff?". He looked at me - dead serious a - bit of a pause - and said "It's simple Jenny, don't learn."
I realized then - for him to be doing that kind of stuff - it wasn't that he couldn't or wouldn't do it - but he SHOULDN'T do it. His time was more valuable making the sale that others could not do - and let them handle this kind of stuff.
Now, no offense to anyone for what their job is - because we are all cogs in the wheel - but I took that little lesson very much to heart. I am not really all that into automation - computers - programming - why something won't work - I know the bare rudiments to "fix" something when it goes wrong on my stuff. I no longer (for many years) am bugged about it (my feelings I mesn) - I just know I'm not wired that way - but what I do excel with is another area where others don't have the same comfort level - so I'm more than happy to "not learn" and let them excel in their job and am grateful for their skills and passion about what they love.
It was a very liberating moment and I remember it very well. Fred really imparted a bit of wisdom that day.
