Here are the exit poll results for the last several Presidential elections. There's a clear link between income level and the party voted for.

I agree it's not a clean break on income. For example, people with college degrees are more likely to have above-average income, and also are more likely to vote Democratic than Republican.
But income is still an important factor. If you earn under $50K a year, you're probably voting Democratic, and over, you're probably voting Republican (with an asterisk for 2008)
