It's a hard thing to get a grip on. With 2 teenagers in the house...believe me, we've had our share of it.

I just remember...and I remember it like it was yesterday...a couple friends of mine were constantly picked on for being "dorks, nerds, gay" all that shit.
This was also in the middle of the desegregation years...so all the white suburban kids were totally scared of the black inner city kids.
Dude started mouthing off at one of my friends during gym class. I got in his face and told him to knock it the fuck off...that they didn't do anything to him and he should back the fuck off. I did this even knowing that I was likely gonna get the living shit kicked out of me. (thankfully, this was the 80s...nobody carried weapons then...you just got beat up).
Oddly enough, I did not get my ass kicked and never again did me (or this particular friend) have an issue with any of the "city kids".
I know when it's a pack of people coming at you it's hard to stand up for yourself. But if you don't do it, who the hell will? Sometimes an ass whooping is worth it.
