it does happen - I missed a Federal vote once. I decided on a Saturday to go on vacation the next day, which meant i was away for the vote

If i'd known the travel was going to happen, i would have early voted as well.
(the vacation was so last minute because i was looking for a job, and then got one to start in one week's time. so if i was going to go away, it was that week, or wait for a long time).
