*nods*, i feel that with a third party, if two parties become too extremely left or right, the third option ends up looking most sane.

so, no party strays THAT far from the centre with more than two options available for fear of looking like, well, the Tea Party.
obviously we have parties that are more 'left' and 'right' when compared to each other, but, nothing gets taken to insane extremes.
