One thing I hope last night's election proved to people is that a presidential candidate being anti the incumbent is not enough to win.

It didn't work in 1996. It didn't work in 2004. It didn't work in 2012. You need to have a candidate people like with ideas that excite them, not just "anybody but the President we have".

Obama ran a middling campaign, had probably the worst debate performance in recent presidential history, and still won relatively easily. The reason, imo, is because no one was excited to vote for Romney. Nothing excited people like Reagan did in 1980.
