Well I'll say this. You get one of your own running in an election and it has a huge effect on turnout, irrespective of ideals.

Obviously the candidate has to be the right side of crazy to make him electable. And I'm as guilty of that way of thinking as anyone else who would "vote for their own". No matter what JFK did, or what his ideals were, he is still my favourite president precisely because his grandfather was Irish. If that's racism, so be it.
