Was just reading about the vegetative state communication story ... so many commenters are saying "Did they ask if they should pull the plug?"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure someone in a persistent vegetative state doesn't really need machines to keep them alive, just staff to keep them comfortable.

Which means there is no plug to pull.

And now that he can communicate a bit, maybe soon they can wire up a machine for autonomous two-way communication. Then he could text. It would be like he was a normal teenager.
