Just as a follow up on that "Tanging your dishwasher" discussion from this morning - there really is absolutely nothing horribly corrosive about it

citric acid is a weak acid and it's no more acidic than drinking orange juice. It works well precisely because it's such a weak acid - a strong acid would destroy your dishwasher. Removing lime does not take much of an acid at all, and citric acid also has the property of chelating (binding) heavy metals that can make soap ineffective.
