you would think. but. i expect that the groom's family will want to 'help'.

i mean, i don't know the bride's family's monetary situation but it would be hard to compete with the groom's.
(also, in orthodox Jewish tradition, the *parents* of the engaged couple sign an agreement when the couple gets engaged that lays out who will cover what. its' a signed document, from day 1. Probably stops a lot of drama from happening later.)
