I agree the timeline is messed up, but I don't think it really matters. I suggest "not thinking about it"

It's like what Craig said in interview about Casino Royale. Paraphrasing but "Judi Dench is back as M, which doesn't make any sense, but she's a great actress and why wouldn't you have her in the role?"
