It's a while since I saw it, but going through the movie I thought of Chance as being this person who's very different from everyone else. He doesn't seem to have emotions or temptations. He doesn't relate to people at all, but they project themselves onto him. He becomes a celebrity by spouting simple platitudes "life is like a garden" that don't really mean anything, but a lot of people are convinced that what he says has deeper meaning.
Then at the very end of the film, he walks away over water, which is a pretty direct comparison to Jesus Christ. So are we meant to think that Chance is like Jesus, that he was sent by God to give people guidance? Or are we meant to think instead that Jesus is like Chance, that he was similarly different from other people, Christianity was constructed by people around him who gave his words deeper meaning than they merited.
