I think that college rules have gone so far in favor of the offense that Nick Saban and John Chavis are the only two people in the world...

who can still manage effective defenses now. Monte is still one of the three or four finest defensive minds I have ever seen. There is only so much he can control. And a lot of his issues stem from depth issues caused by the NCAA sanctions. I never thought USC was a legit title contender because of them although I also thought they had more talent than a 7-5 team.
