The next few months will suck, because a day won't go by where you won't think about him.
Gradually it will fade and you'll be a stronger person because of it. Consider it a life lesson and use what you've learned in this relationship to put towards your next opportunity.
You mentioned mutual friends and all that on a backboard post... and I know exactly how you feel. With my last breakup (2 years ago), one of the things that hurt me the most was how well I had gotten to know her parents and family, along with the folks at the Church she had been attending. Her breaking up with me put an end to all of that, immediately.
