I'd clarify. Obviously, if it's today it's too late. But I can see that as meaning both things.......

1) "I need this for what I will be doing on Friday, so I need it by the time Friday begins"
or
2) "I need this for Saturday or some day that follows Friday, so I need you to get this completed during Friday and get it to me so when Friday is over, I have it."
