A NAT router has an external facing exposure of only the router. Sure, it won't tell you what's attacking you, but who cares?

And outgoing activity isn't a "firewall's" job per se

I should say, a traditional firewall only deals with inbound traffic. But there is a definite need for outbound firewalls -- nm
