It's to make other people feel better. It doesn't really help. Really, I'm fine with it as far as those getting TARP money. Essentially their

biggest shareholder is causing them to get reduced pay. Personally I think they should still get incentives. Good ones. If they can pay back the TARP money sooner or make other changes that can turn them around, let them make a good return. In many cases I think these claims of massive salaries are somewhat overstated since a large portion is stock options, but I do think that there has been overinflation of salaries at these levels (just as baseball salaries and actor salaries are out of line too). But these guys work very hard and under extreme pressure. People think it's cushy. It's not.
