as the number decimal places increases, the difference gets smaller.
this means that as the number of decimal places approaches infinity, the difference becomes infinitely small, i.e. zero.
Since infinity is possible in math (hell, calculus is based on it), and the dot or bar indicates an infinite number of decimal places, then the difference does equate to zero.
and for the .899999 thing, the difference approaches .1, not zero.
