If it's actually an iPod, you can add songs to playlist on the go, but it's easy to accidently start playing the song you select instead of adding it to the list. Same thing frequently happens when a laptop is running the show.
I wish there were a "Party mode" where it would take extra steps to actually interrupt a song currently playing.
