Is dhcp turned on? Do you want to assign static IP addys? Look at all that stuff in the modem, and make your laptop settings match. If you don't want to do that, rerun the network and wireless network wizards on an already connected computer and at the end when it asks if you want to burn the data on a disk to help with setting up other computers, say YES and burn a disk. Then let the disk handle it for you.

Although, you'll learn a lot more mucking about inside your modem. Like....port forwarding and stuff like that. :)
