Life of Pi related: Can you choose to believe in God?

I've often wished that I could because I do think that version of the story is "better" in that it gives a purpose to existence. I just don't. I could choose to be religious (i.e. go to church, study scripture, etc.) but I don't know that I could make myself believe. Possibly it's a matter of going through the ritual and the repetition of it and eventually you would ultimately believe?

This has been your Saturday night existential crisis.
