make sure you purchase the new squad slots ASAP
you want 6 max sqaud as soon as you can.
then try to rotate vets with newbs.
I tried to throw in 2 new rookies w vets almost every mission till mid-campaign.
also 2 assault, 2 support, 1 heavy and 1 sniper is what i found the best balance.
and *always* select heat ammo when leveling a Heavy
