Merry Christmas (warning - this is my once a year mushy post)

Its hard to believe that Ive been part of this community for over 15 years now, and its not an overstatement to say that it and each and every one of you has been an important part of my life. So much has changed since I saw that article in Entertainment Weekly and decided to check out that movie stock exchange website. I soon discovered the message board (which was called The Money, I believe) which became Ticker Talk and then Slacker Talk. A special thanks to Bery. I wasnt going to name anyone in particular in this post to avoid forgetting people, but I will make an exception for Bery to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude.
To think, when I started posting here I was a straight man in my mid-twenties pursuing a graduate degree and doubting that was the path I wanted to continue on. I came out on Ticker Talk first (well, technically second after a therapist, but she doesnt count.) Part of that was because there was a bit more safety in coming out someplace where I didnt have to say it to someones face and to people I could easily avoid if it happened not to go well, but still having Ticker Talk available was very important in taking a major step forward in my life. Its still not something I am completely comfortable with, but I feel most comfortable on Slacker Talk, and I am gayer here than anywhere else. Sorry about that ;) Slacker Talk has also been important in my decisions as far as my career path go, for better or worse. Who knows how another path would have turned out, but I am generally happy with the path Ive taken despite the detour I am currently on, which will hopefully soon be over.
I said I wasnt going to mention any names because I didnt want to leave anyone out, but thank you to everyone. To those who were there at the beginning whether you still post here or not and to those who have joined the community over the years and added so much. Remembering those we have lost and celebrating the new additions to the Slacker Talk offspring family. To those I have personally met, without exception the real people behind the handle have exceeded expectations. While not always perfect (and occasionally pretty ugly), I have seen this community rally around its own in a myriad of ways and in general discussions even about greatly divisive subjects tend to remain civil.
So Merry Christmas to all. Youve enriched my life and had a considerable part in forming who I have become. May you and your loved ones have a joyous holiday season and a phenomenal 2013.
