We got our oldest daughter hers at 13. The youngest got hers when she was 10 1/2 (last xmas).

To us, it all depends on what they were doing. The oldest, we *knew* where and who she was with until she was 13. The youngest spends more time out with friends, and it was just easier to get the cell phone for her to call us when needed.
