Serious response; I am happy all of my days, despite the tragic moments, because my love for them makes me happy. This is one reason why it amuses me

when people compare their pets to children.
Pets can never let you down the way children do. They never fail, fan your hopes to a bright fire, then fail again.
Pets don't steal from you.
Loving a pet is real, and emotional, and visceral, and honest.
But loving a child is committing to the reality of pain, and heartbreak, and doing it anyway. Over and over again.
I long for them to be happy. I yearn for them to not be hurt, to be strong and good. I ache when they are wrong, or hurt.
But I never regret having them.
