Hopefully he still has status (or membership) for access, the NRT club AC is fantastic.

The LAX AC is nice if a little crowded at times (much much better than the terminal though!). If your companion is EXP, you'll actually get into the LAX Flagship lounge (inside of the AC but separate) which is nicer and quieter. Either way, AC or FL is far better than cramped, loud, chaotic T4 at LAX>
